A hex-based city-building game
Skyline Urban Story is a premium simulation game developed by PandaUpStudio. It's a hex-based city builder, wherein players take on the grand endeavor of establishing a small village and work their way up to become a bustling megacity that is home to millions of citizens.
Comparable to games like Cities: Skylines or Sid Meier's Civilization VII, Skyline Urban Story focuses on scale and economic growth but takes a more casual approach with its charming graphics. That said, its in-game systems and mechanics are just as complex and elaborate that many fans of the genre will enjoy immersing themselves in.
Economies of scale
Skyline Urban Story is a city-building sim that incorporates real-life economic principles into its gameplay. You begin with a small hex-based grid to build a village, and you'll gradually expand your land and territory based on a Plot System, which is directly affected by economic growth and development. The higher the income potential of a sector is, the more land prices will increase.
To help facilitate this, you will need to attract investors who will set up shop on your land. This also has the added benefit of generating job opportunities, as well as demand for material supply for industrial endeavors. You can build up vertically or outward horizontally, but regardless of your strategy, there's a need for a robust transportation system that will support the economy.
Over time, you will develop special zones that specialize in one industry or another. Take this into account as you plan what to build and where to place them to achieve synergistic effects through adjacent hex tiles that complement one another. Now, it would not be surprising if some players find all of this to be quite overwhelming. There will be a high learning curve to overcome at the start.
More than meets the eye
Despite its charming visuals, Skyline Urban Story is a surprisingly deep and complex city-building experience that will not be for the faint of heart. From the planning stage to eventual execution, there will be a lot to take in and manage as you learn the ropes. However, the effort will be worth it for the unique gameplay you will have.
